On December 15, 2011 the New Orleans City Council renewed the Cable Television Franchise held by Cox Communications.    The new agreement has a ten year term commencing on January 1, 2012.  Under the new agreement, Cox will pay to the City an annual franchise fee of approximately $3.5 Million per year based on 5% of Cox's gross revenues from video programming activities.     The franchise fee will be in addition to the sums to be paid to the City by Cox in connection with the provision of  Public, Education  and Government Access channels.

Bill Aaron and Brenda Nguyen of Aaron, PLC served as legal advisors to the City Council and its Cable, Telecommunications and Technology Committee in connection with the renewal process (formal and informal) and the negotiation of the new franchise agreement.
