Parish Obtains Dismissal Of HUD Complaint

April 25 2015 | blog

By letter dated April 13, 2015 the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued its notice of dismissal of  a complaint of discrimination filed against the St. Mary Parish Government by Lloyd Harris a developer of multifamily housing.  The Complainant alleged that because of his race (African American), the St. Mary Parish Council voted to reject his proposal to develop Garden City Apartments, a multi-family housing complex his company sought to build in Garden City, Louisiana.  The Complainant additionally alleged that the Parish Council sought to impose requirements on his project that were not required of a white developer who sought to build on the same site several years earlier.   Finally Complainant alleged that the actions of the Parish Council had a disparate impact on families with children, the population that would comprise sixty percent of the residents of the proposed complex.

The St. Mary Parish Government and the St. Mary Parish Council were represented before HUD in connection with the referenced Complaint by William D. Aaron, Jr. of Aaron & Gianna, PLC.

The Attorneys of Aaron & Gianna have substantial experience in connection with matters affecting affordable housing.  In addition to the defense of public and private sector clients accused of housing discrimination the attorneys of Aaron & Gianna have represented private developers as well as local housing authorities involved in the provision of multi-family and other affordable housing.
