Mass Layoff Class Action Trial Begins

May 26, 2011 | Blog

The trial of the class action lawsuit filed on behalf of over 7,000 school employees terminated by the Orleans Parish School Board in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina began in the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans on Monday May 23, 2011.   The lawsuit names as defendants the Orleans Parish School Board and the State of Louisiana which took over the majority of schools operated by the Orleans Parish School Board pre-Katrina.  The central issue before the court is whether the terminations were legal.  Aaron, PLC serves as trial counsel for the OPSB.   Attorneys from the firm participating in the trial include Renee Smith, Candice Richards-Forest, and Bill Aaron.  They are being assisted by Shelley Humphrey, a Paralegal with the firm.  The trial is scheduled to last 4 to 5 weeks.
